Parts are priced at a Polish Yamaha dealer.

The rooms are double / twin, bright and spacious. All rooms have air conditioning and a large bathroom. It is possible to stay in a single room for 200 euro extra.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

We evaluate the level of difficulty as moderate. We only move on asphalt or concrete slabs, but in some mountain regions and on narrow roads the surface may be contaminated. However, the multitude of curves, many of which are “blind”, the inclination of the road or the awareness of cliffs just beyond the road lane contribute to the discomfort of some riders. We believe that everyone on our route can handle it, but at a different pace.

DO I HAVE TO RIDE IN A GROUP?

Not. It is recommended by us because we believe that it is always more fun and interesting in a group, but it is not necessary. We can provide the participants with routes for a day along with information about accommodation, but at the moment we do not provide navigation devices.

ACCOMMODATION

We stick to the standard of accommodation at the level of good 3 or 4 stars, although we will not always sleep in hotels. Sometimes they are climatic agritourism or the so-called “casa rural” – small family-run guesthouses. Sometimes there will be no swimming pool, spa or massages, but there will certainly be a friendly atmosphere, cleanliness and necessary amenities.

LUGGAGE

The main baggage will be transferred between hotels in a service car. Motorbikes will have cases in which you can carry small items useful during the day.

WHAT SHOULD I TAKE WITH ME?

First of all, own and complete motorcycle clothing. In the Pyrenees, we will often change altitude, so textiles with membranes work best. It can be warm down there, but after reaching an altitude 2000 m above sea level and bad weather, the temperature can drop below 10 degrees. The tour will be accompanied by a guide, so no navigation is needed. We recommend taking a camera and large memory with you to exchange materials with others.

WHAT DO WE DRIVE?

A trip to Iceland is a special trip in our offer because we use cars to travel. These will be Dacia Duster class cars or similar, with a 4×4 drive. Additionally, tents of the “hardshell” type, ie with a composite housing, are mounted on the roofs.

HOW DOES THE RESERVATION WORK? WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER?

First you have to choose a convenient arrival date. Then complete the application form at the bottom of each page with the description of the trip. This is how the initial reservation is made. After positive verification of the form, we refer documentation regarding the trip. To confirm the reservation, a deposit of 250€ per person is required. The deposit is refundable in 100% up to 45 days before the departure date, in 50% up to 30 days before departure, then it is forfeited.

WHAT SHOULD I TAKE WITH ME?

First of all, you need to be prepared for the changing weather. The only weather factor that doesn’t change is wind. It is almost always windy in Iceland, so light outerwear that protects against wind and rain is strongly recommended. Umbrellas won’t be useful at all. Due to the multitude of hot springs at which we will stop, we recommend taking a bathing suit, flip-flops and a quick-drying towel. We will take the camping set together with the rental car.

LUGGAGE

Each participant carries all luggage in the car. We assume a maximum of 2 people in the car, so there will be enough space.

TRANSFERS

Transfers from the airport to the car rental are included in the price.

LOGISTIC MINIMUM

Logistic minimum is 6 confirmed reservations.

DO I HAVE TO TRAVEL IN A GROUP?

No. This is recommended by us, but it is not necessary. We can provide routes along with information about the accommodation to each participant. However, we warn against lonely traveling, especially on dirt roads. You should remember that in Iceland there is a total ban on moving off the public roads or designated off-road terrain! Driving in illegitimate places may result in very high fines.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED?

A driving license, ID card or passport valid for at least 6 months from the end of the trip. Visas are not required for citizens of the European Union. Allianz Globetroter tourist insurance is included in the price of the trip.

MONEY

Almost anywhere you can pay by credit / debit card. If you want to have cash with you, it is best to bring the euro and exchange it in a bank or currency exchange office.

COMMUNICATION

European roaming works very well, there is no problem with phones. However, in many places along the way, we can encounter the lack of signal.

VACCINATIONS

No additional vaccinations are required.

DEPOSIT AND INSURANCE FOR CAR

There is no deposit needed to be paid extra. The car insurance includes:

  • CDW (Collision Damage Waiver)
  •  GP (Gravel Protection)
  •  SADW (Sand and Ash Damage Waiver)
  •  SCDW (Super Collision Damage Waiver)
  •  TP (Theft Protection)
  • the insurance covers windows, sandstorms, scratches, doors pulled by the wind
  • zero own contribution
  • the insurance does not cover tires and river crossings

INSURANCE

We buy travel insurance for each participant. It is Allianz Globetroter. The policy covers 40 000 euro of treatment and assistance costs, 40 000 euro of third party liability insurance and 10 000 euro of accident insurance.

ADAPTERS

Most plugs are standard in force in Europe. In places where there are specific, flattened Icelandic plugs, adapters are generally available – although there are very few places with this standard left.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

Most of the route runs on asphalt, and the number of gravel sections does not exceed 15% of the length. The terrain is not difficult and all the roads we use are public, so it shouldn’t be difficult for anyone with common sense.

ACCOMMODATION

We will sleep on proven campsites, which are usually of a high standard in Iceland. It is a popular form of spending the night, so we will often be able to choose from several available. Camping prices are not included in the price of the trip.

VISA

Passing through passport control at the airport in Bogota, you will have to provide the purpose of the visit (tourism = turismo) and the address of the accommodation. You must enter the address of our first hotel there – Hotel Casa Manoa, Carrera 6 No. 4-81, Sesquile, Cundinamarca. Then you will receive stamps with the permission to stay for 90 days.

INSURANCE

For the duration of your stay in Colombia, we provide Allianz Globetrotter insurance. At the participant’s request, we send an example policy for inspection with a detailed explanation of the scope of insurance.

WHAT SHOULD I TAKE WITH ME?

All luggage will have to carry with you on a motorcycle so we care about the compact size. We will always have accommodation with access to running water and you will be able to wash your belongings. In Colombia there is a tropical climate, so most of the time it will be hot – on average around 25 degrees. However, there are also high mountains there, and the higher it is colder. The temperature in the pass can sometimes drop up to 12 degrees, so it’s good to have something warm under your jacket. Get ready for the fact that it rains there often. The air temperature does not drop during the rain and sometimes the refreshment is pleasant and the items dry quickly.

Sample baggage: helmet, light jacket, motorcycle pants and gloves, rain coveralls, ankle boots in which in addition to protection on the motorcycle you will be able to walk as comfortable, long-sleeved shirt and balaclava or chimney to protect the face from the sun. From personal items: underwear, 3x t-shirt, 2x short pants, 1x long pants (except motorcycle ones), 1x tourist jacket, comfortable shoes, flip flops, mini vanity bag, tourist towel. Remember about the cream with the filter and it is advisable to protect the head from the sun. The basic first aid kit is also useful.

MOTORCYCLES

During the expedition we will use Yamaha XTZ250 motorcycles. In european conditions, it is a small capacity, but there won’t be many larger motorcycles found on the roads. During previous expeditions in Colombia, they erformed brilliantly.

LUGGAGE ON A MOTORCYCLE

Each participant will have at their disposal a soft bag with a capacity of 50 liters. You should pack your belongings into it and mount it to the motorcycle with straps attached. Your suitcase will be kept in storage room in the first hotel in Bogota. The group of more than 6 participants could be accompanied by a support car with the possibility of carrying luggage or people not riding motorcycles.

MONEY

Apart from the price of the expedition, you will have to pay only for fuel to your motorcycle, meals / drinks (other than breakfast), possible phone starter and own expenses. Our calculations show that the equivalent of 350€ per person is enough for everything. In Colombia, it is best to take euro or US dollars with you, which is exchanged for Colombian pesos on the spot. If necessary, we will have access to ATMs where international payment cards operate.

DEPOSIT

When renting motorcycles it is necessary to pay a deposit of 300 euros or 300 USD. Payments can be made by bank transfer before arrival to Colombia as well as cash on the spot. Deposit will be repayed as soon as possible after the expedition.

ACCOMMODATION

We will spend the night in the best possible hotels / hostels / guesthouses available in the area. The priority is to keep it safe and clean. In the hottest and less-frequented areas of Colombia, it may happen that there will be no hot water in the tap. With 25+ degrees of heat outside all year round, Colombians do not see the need to additionally heat water, which is still lukewarm from hot pipes.

CONNECTIVITY / INTERNET

On the first day after the accommodation and dinner we will go to the local operator, where everyone will be able to buy a card with a local number and the Internet. The cost is about 20€. It will facilitate communication between each other and contact with the home. In most places where we will be traveling, we will have a signal, and in most places there is Wi-Fi.

ADAPTERS

In Colombia, electric sockets are the same as in the US with 110V. It is necessary to have a suitable adapter to be able to use European plugs. The same adapter is for the USA, Canada, Central and South America and Far East Asia.

VACCINES

Below is a list of vaccinations recommended by the world health organization before traveling to most tropical countries including Colombia. Recommended does not mean mandatory, and the decision is yours.

hepatitis A
hepatitis B
tetanus + diphtheria
typhoid
yellow fever

ROUTE / NAVIGATION

Most of the route will take place on mountain roads full of curves and beautiful views. Depending on the quality of the road and your chosen destination, we will drive a maximum of 300km per day. Every few days we’ll take a day off the road and stay in one place for two nights to relax and enjoy the local charms. The guide will have two different paper maps and navigation on the phone. From our experience, the Maps Me application works better than Google Maps. It has better road coverage in Colombia, works offline and is free. If for some reason the group is split, then on this application we will appoint a meeting place.

PAYMENT FOR THE TRIP

Before entering the list of participants, we charge deposit of 500€. Then, for a minimum of 60 days before departure, we collect the second part, 890€. The remaining 1400€ please bring with you in cash to the plane.

Do I need a visa?

Yes, it is needed. A tourist visa can be obtained upon arrival at Windhoek airport, but procedures there can take up to several hours to serve passengers on one flight. We recommend that beforehand you contact the Namibia representative in Berlin or London, or use one of the visa intermediation offices. However, it should be remembered that such a procedure may take up to 30 days in standard mode. The visa costs 80 euros and is not included in the departure price. Importantly – it is necessary to have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the planned return.

Travel insurance

We purchase Allianz Globetrotter travel insurance for each participant. The sums insured include EUR 40,000 for medical expenses, EUR 40,000 for third-party liability insurance, and EUR 10,000 for the consequences of accidents. You will receive the policy with the scopes of insurance described in detail after completing the application form.

What will we travel with?

During the trip, we will be using Toyota Hilux 4 × 4 cars. The cars have two double tents on the roof and camping equipment.

What is the weather going to be like?

Namibia is a desert and mountainous country, and a large part of the country lies on a plateau (the capital is about 1,650 meters above sea level), so the climate is dry and high temperatures are not as bothersome as in a humid climate. From October to April it is summer in Namibia, and the average temperatures are then between 25 ° C – 35 ° C during the day, at night it is usually around 10 – 15 ° C. Higher temperatures occur in the northern and southern parts of the country, while the coastal areas, thanks to the cold Benguel current, have much lower temperatures (from 15 ° C to 25 ° C) and are very often clouded or foggy. The water in the ocean is quite cold, although in summer it can even reach 17-18 ° C. The rains in Namibia fall from October to April and are usually intense but of short duration, which is not very difficult to travel. In March and April, it rains rather sporadically, but there is the most greenery and water in rivers and canyons.

What to take with you?

You will definitely need some means of protection against the sun – a hat, glasses, a scarf, strong sunscreen. In addition, good means of protection against insects. In the north of the country it is negligible, but the risk of malaria – there we will especially need them and use long pants, socks, and long-sleeved sweatshirts – just to be safe. A headlamp, power bank, cigarette lighter chargers, a reusable thermos or a water bottle, an additional phone, or a dual sim phone with a Namibian sim card (internet) will also be useful, shoes – flip-flops, sandals, covered shoes. A handy backpack, binoculars, a thicker fleece, and a swimming suit will also be useful.

Currency

The currency in Namibia is the Namibian Dollar (NAD), although the Rand (South African currency) is also popular. The Rand to NAD ratio is 1: 1
100 EUR = 1749 NAD
100 NAD = 5,7 EUR
It is best to pay with a card and use the numerous and well-functioning ATMs. In hotels, restaurants, and shops you can pay with a credit/debit card.
However, you should know that these facilities often add a commission for card payments.
You can take US Dollars or EURO with you for possible exchange, unfortunately, you can only do it in banks and it takes a very long time, and in some places, it is even impossible. In our opinion, you should take care of the possibility of withdrawing money from ATMs and the possibility of paying with a card.

Where we will sleep?

We will spend most of the nights in our camping tents. We will always have access to toilets and sanitary facilities. Some of the campsites are located next to hotels, and then we will be able to use the entire infrastructure, i.e. swimming pools and restaurants. During the entire trip, we will spend 10 nights camping and 4 nights in hotels.

Connectivity between cars

For easy communication between individual cars, we will use walkie-talkies.

Mobile network / the Internet

From Namibia, the prices of calls to Europe are very high. It is best to communicate via the Internet. On-site, we will be able to buy local SIM cards (about 65 NAD) with 3GB Internet packages for a week (another 65 NAD), which will allow us to have free contact with each other and with home. For most of our trip, there will be no problems with coverage, but there will be places where it will not be available.

Do you need adapters for electrical outlets?

There is 220V electricity in Namibia, but their sockets are very unusual. They use type D there, which is the old British type, usually unavailable with universal adapters. Suitable adapters or possible extension cords can be purchased online or in stores in Namibia.

Vaccinations for exotic diseases

Namibia does not have compulsory vaccinations, but vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, tetanus, and typhoid are recommended.
Covid procedures and restrictions as of October 20, 2021
To enter Namibia, it is necessary to present a PCR test with a negative result not older than 72 hours. Vaccination or a certificate of “convalescence” does not exempt from the obligation to perform this test. Theoretically, there is a curfew between 22:00 and 4:00, but it is practically only observed in the capital.

Navigating

The driver of the first car, usually our guide, navigates. The whole group follows him. For those willing, we can provide the route in GPX format. We do not provide any navigation devices.

Minimum logistic group

The minimum logistic group is 8 people in two cars.

Airport transfers

We provide airport transfers upon arrival in Namibia and before departure to Poland. The transfer is included in the departure price.

The difficulty level of the route

The difficulty level of the route is not high. We will leave the asphalt many times, but these will be wide gravel roads with a fairly hard surface. The difficulty when traveling in Namibia may be the dust stirred up by the cars in front and the need to maintain concentration for a long time. Namibia generally has roads with no curves, and off the asphalt it may happen that at the end of the 30-kilometer straight width of the airport there is a 20-meter section washed by a periodic river, requiring very slow and precise driving. It is important to notice it on time.

Drivers during the trip

During the trip, there will be two or three drivers who can drive cars if necessary. Of course, it is possible to drive a car on your own, which we encourage you to do. However, it should be remembered that in Namibia there is left-hand traffic and it is necessary to have an international driving license.
